TeenSpace FAQs
- Who can use TeenSpace?
-
Seating in TeenSpace is reserved for teens in grades 6-12 (tables and computers). Adults/children may browse, but children under the age of 12 must be with an adult.
- How can I use the computers in TeenSpace?
-
Assuming you are a teen who is at least 12 years of age, you need to have a green library card. Teens can use a computer for 2 hours (or longer if nobody is waiting).
- Who can attend teen programs?
-
Teen programs are for students in grades 6-12. Parents are asked not to attend programs (except for special programs like Open Mic Night or joint programs like College Prep programs).
- How do I sign up for a teen program?
-
Unless stated that there is a fee to be paid in person, you can register using Online Program Registration using your library card, over the phone (516-921-7161 ext. 242) or by email. Please pay attention to sign-up dates since popular programs (such as our volunteer programs) fill up quickly.
- Can I volunteer at the library?
-
Syosset Library offers a number of specific volunteer opportunities each month. That includes an activity working with younger children (such as book buddies) and Teen Advisory Board meetings. You can check out the Volunteer Opportunity Directory of over 50 local organizations seeking teen volunteers. If you are seeking additional community service credit, you may submit a short review of a new teen book, video game or movie to splteens@syossetlibrary.org to be posted on the TeenSpace blog with librarian approval. We do not “hire” teen volunteers to work at the library unsupervised.
