Brooklyn Bridge Forever: A Monument in Stone and Steel

John B. Manbeck, Brooklyn Borough Historian between 1993-2002, professor-emeritis, and author, presents this lecture about the development and construction of the Brooklyn Bridge and shows how 19th century pioneers overcame natural hindrances to create a work of art, "The Eighth Wonder of the Modern World." This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities’ Speakers in the Humanities program.

Beauty & the Beast: An Autism-Friendly Performance

A specially designed and adapted performance of Beauty & the Beast for children with autism and autism spectrum disorders and their families. A calming corner and coping tools will be available during the performance to assist families if necessary. Talented teens help perform and coach younger kids for our Talent Show. Singing, dancing, acting, instruments, you name it, we want it! Non-performers can help coach younger kids. Indicate your talent in the note field. Mandatory rehearsal Monday, July 28. Talent show Monday, August 4. Registration begins on Monday, June 9 for SSD residents.

Zentangle® Workshop

Presented by MaryAnn Scheblein-Dawson, Zentangle is "mindful doodling" and is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images on paper using an ink pen from repetitive patterns. It is fun and relaxing and increases focus and creativity. Each participant will enjoy learning the basic Zentangle concept and several simple designs and then complete a Zentangle on a tile of handmade Italian calligraphic paper using Micron pigment ink pens.
Fee: $5 materials fee (cash) for a Zentangle kit that you can take home is due upon registration or within one week if you register online.
Registration for SSD begins Friday, June 20; all others, one week later if space is available.
