Quotes About Libraries

A circulating library in a town is as an evergreen tree of diabolical knowledge! It blossoms through the year!

Library Policies

Creation Station Policy

3D BraceletThe Syosset Public Library offers community access to emerging technologies to assist patrons in expanding their creative potential and skills. The Library’s 3D printer is able to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file.

  1. Use of the Creation Station and equipment is reserved for Syosset Central School District residents only.

  2. Patrons may schedule appointments at the Reference Desk to use the Creation Station equipment by providing their name, telephone number, and a current valid identification. Appointments will be scheduled for up to two hours, and may be booked up to two weeks in advance. A reservation will be held for 15 minutes.

  3. Patrons must sign the liability waiver prior to use of the room and equipment. Patrons under 18 must have a Minor Liability Waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

  4. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older) at all times.

  5. The third floor is maintained as a quiet floor for studying: no phones or loud noises allowed; quiet conversation is acceptable; use of computer software with an audio component will require headphones; ear buds are available for purchase at the Reference Desk.

  6. No food or beverages are allowed in the room at any time.

  7. Patrons must bring supplies for any personal projects with the exception of those using the 3D printer.

  8. The Library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes, and may not be used to create any materials which are:

    • Prohibited by local, state or federal law;

    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or posing a threat to the well-being of others (this may also violate the manufacturer’s terms of use);

    • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment;

    • In violation of intellectual property rights: For example, the printer may not reproduce materials which are subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection. The Library assumes no responsibility to ensure compliance with any patent, trademark or copyright restrictions.

  9. All 3D printer projects must be preapproved by Library staff.

  10. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.

  11. Library staff will be available for assistance if necessary; however, staff are not experts and cannot offer extended instruction.

  12. The patron has five days to pick up their project. After five days, the project may be discarded. The Library is not responsible for the production or storing of any project.

  13. Patrons must remain in the building for the first 20 minutes of a 3D printer project.

  14. The 3D printer will be turned off one half hour before the closing of the Library. Printing cannot continue after the printer is shut off. Incomplete projects will be terminated at that time.

  15. Any saved projects on the iMac’s hard drive will be automatically deleted after a patron’s session has ended. Patrons must save all work on their own flash drives. Flash drives are available for purchase.

  16. The cost of 3D printing is $.50 per half hour of printing (payable in advance), with a limit of two hours per project. Patrons must note that even if a project does not meet their satisfaction, no refunds or credits will be given.

  17. Policy governing the use of the Creation Station equipment is subject to change without notice.
