BABYSITTING WORKSHOP with JoAnn Tanck & Georgette Basso. Monday, November 24. 6:30-8:30. Bring a doll or stuffed animal to practice the art of diapering. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, October 20; October 27 for non-residents. Free. Refreshments provided.


TEEN ADVISORY BOARD - Get involved with Teen programs and materials at your library. Thursday, December 18, 2008, and Mondays, January 26 and February 23, 2009. 7 PM. In TeenSpace. No registration required. Free. Refreshments provided.

TEEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:

  • WINTER CRAFTS WITH KIDS - Help a child, Kindergarten through 2 nd grade, create a fun craft to take home for the holidays. Monday, December 15. 7- 8:00 PM.
  • PAJAMA BOOK BUDDIES - Read to children 3 ½ years old to kindergarten and wear your pj's! Monday, January 12, 2009 . 7- 7:45 PM.
  • VALENTINE CRAFTS WITH KIDS - Make a Valentine's Day card with a child, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, to give to a loved one. Thursday, February 12. 7- 8:00 PM.

VIDEO GAME NIGHT. Monday, December 1. 7- 8:30 PM . Join us for our first ever Guitar Hero competition! Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, November 3; November 10 for non-residents. Free. Refreshments provided.

OPEN MIC NIGHT - NEW DATE! Friday, December 5. 7- 9:00 PM . Back by popular demand - we need talented Teens for our 2nd Open Mic Night. Singing, dancing, poetry, music, magic tricks. Whatever your talent, show it off to your friends. Performer registration for SSD residents begins Monday, November 3; November 10 for non-residents. Free tickets available beginning Monday, November 17.

RETRO SURF ART. Monday, December 8 from 7- 8:00 PM . Just in time for holiday gifts -create and paint organic, beautifully designed clay pieces to make retro looking jewelry. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, November 10; November 17 for non-residents. Free.

JAPANESE MANGA DRAWING with Bruce Gilbert. Bruce is back to help you hone your drawing skills. Sundays, January 4 and January 18, 2009 . 12:30 - 2:30 PM . Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, December 8; December 15 for non-residents. Free. Refreshments provided.

ART/FASHION PORTFOLIO REVIEW with Ivy Bell-Bazer. Create artwork for inclusion in your art or fashion portfolio. Learn how to evaluate your work and select pieces that should be included in your portfolio. Monday, February 2, 2009 . 7 - 8:00 PM . In person registration for SSD residents begins Monday, January 5; January 12 for non-residents. $4.00 materials fee. Refreshments provided.

VALENTINE'S DAY CHOCOLATE WORKSHOP. Make a delicious Valentine's Day treat for yourself or someone special. Monday, February 9, 2009 . 7 - 8:30 PM. In person registration for SSD residents begins Monday, January 12; January 19 for non-residents. $3.00 materials fee.

TEEN 80S CHEEZY MOVIE AFTERNOON. Vote to watch your favorite movie from the 1980s. The winning movie will be shown Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 2 - 4:00 PM . Cast your vote in TeenSpace beginning January 12. Free. Tickets not required. Refreshments provided.

Let us help make the college search easier. Stop by the Reference Desk or TeenSpace to pick up our updated packet, From High School to College, containing a list of library and internet resources, government brochures, a sample FAFSA financial aid form, and a handy list of what freshmen should consider bringing to school.

The library also has materials available on SAT/ACT test preparation, choosing colleges, writing the college application and essay, college life and financial aid information. TEEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DIRECTORY

A directory of local volunteer opportunities for teens has been compiled. It contains over 50 organizations, including educational, recreational, conservation and humanitarian, seeking teen volunteers. The directory is available upon request at the Reference Desk.
