Non-profit committee founded out of concern for those members of the community who are providing 24 hour care and supervision for a loved one in their home. The goal is to provide up to eight hours of professional respite care each month. The application process in need based, easy to complete and respectful of the caregiver's privacy. Applications are currently being accepted from the Plainview-Old Bethpage, Bethpage, Syosset, Woodbury, and Hicksville areas.

Child Care Council of Nassau, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization serving Nassau County since 1972. Child Care Council provides free child care counseling and referrals to parents, offers training and technical assistance to active and potential child care providers, conduct research, advocates for quality, affordable child care, addresses public policy issues, and serves as an information resource to the public, policy makers and the media. Child Care Council administers the federally funded Child and Adult Care Food Program for family child care providers. The Greenhouse at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow is located behind the Technical Services and Administrative Building, which is close to the Hempstead Turnpike park entrance. You can also enter Eisenhower Park at the intersection of Merrick Ave. and Stewart Avenue and drive through the park (past the Carlton Restaurant). You will see a small green sign directing you behind the Technical Services building (on the same side as the restaurant. Walk-in plant questions are answered Monday- Thursday 10am-4pm

  • CCE Hempstead office (this is where our Administrative Offices and program offices for Food, Nutrition & Health; Youth Development; and Parent Education are located.)

The Early Childhood Direction Centers (ECDCs) provide information about programs and services for young children, birth through age five, who have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities and help families obtain services for their children.

The UJA-Federation Family Service Agency has 21 sites throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties providing family and mental health services. Mental Health Clinics work with adolescents, adults and families to address emotional problems, conflicts and stress. A full range of assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy and medication therapy are available. Clinics also offer specialized services for those coping with family violence, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, eating disorders, and children with special needs. Provides employment services including skills training, job readiness, placement and support for displaced homemakers, dislocated workers and others financially at risk. Community education and professional training offered on a variety of topics. Residential and case management services are provided to those with developmental disabilities.

A partnership of schools, businesses, child care providers, government, civic associations and religious organizations, which work together to provide information about the needs and availability of affordable quality child care. The partnership has produced a resource pamphlet listing child care providers in the area, defining various programs and providing guidelines to assist in making child care decisions. In collaboration with the Jericho Senior High School, a child care video has been developed illustrating quality issues in child care. An offspring of the Partnership is the "Grandparents as Caregivers" group. It is open to all and meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 12:30 to 2:00 at the Jericho Public Library.

This referral service is available to give assistance, direction, and support to persons who are terminally ill and their families. Referrals will be made to the hospices in their geographical area. Follow-up calls and help will be offered. Volunteers for this program are also needed.

The focus of the GAP is group interaction. These programs are offered at both north and south shore locations in the Town. During the summer, the GAP provides a special six-week day camp experience for children ages five to 21. This program is offered at Town community parks on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For further information, contact the Handicapped Services Division.

Between October and May, GAP offers an over 21 Tuesday evening program, a Wednesday evening drama program for those 16 and older, A Thursday afternoon bowling program for those 16 and older, and a Saturday morning swim program for everyone. There are 5 hour programs once a month for those 5-15 and 16 and older, A Saturday night respite is held twice a month for those age groups as well.

UJA is a central source of information for the entire range of services available to the Jewish Community from both UJA-Federation and other agencies in New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk. Trained phone volunteers, supervised by a professional, answer questions and refer callers to appropriate agencies and services. They operate weekdays from 9:00-5:00; other times, answering service takes messages to be answered the next working day. Volunteers speak Russian, Yiddish, and German.
